Luís Oliveira e Silva receives Blaise Pascal medal

The European Academy of Sciences has just revealed the list of recipients of its prestigious 2024 awards.

Luís Oliveira e Silva, Distinguished Professor at the IST Physics Department and coordinator of the Lasers and Plasmas Group, Institute of Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion, is the recipient of the 2024 Blaise Pascal Physics Prize, in recognition of his “exceptional contributions to plasma physics, particularly in the field of interactions between lasers and particle beams”. According to the Academy's citation, “Professor Luís Silva's tireless commitment to the advancement of plasma physics, coupled with his transformative research and leadership, exemplifies the spirit of innovation and excellence celebrated by the Blaise Pascal Physics Prize. His profound impact on the field underlines his well-deserved recognition as a laureate of this prestigious prize.”

The Blaise Pascal Prize recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to science, technology and research education The selection process involves meticulous evaluation and review by the Division's Scientific Committees, with final approval by the Academy's General Council. The awarding of the prize will take place at the 2024 Symposium and Ceremony of the European Academy of Sciences, which will be held at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences on October 29 and 30, 2024.
