Mário Pinheiro elected member of the Sigma Xi Society

Mario Pinheiro, professor at the Physics Department, was elected full member of the Sigma Xi Society. This prestigious organization, the largest general scientific research honor society worldwide, recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions in scientific research across diverse disciplines.

Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi has honored countless renowned scientists and engineers, including more than 200 Nobel Prize winners. The society is dedicated to promoting excellence in scientific research, with an international membership base from various areas of study. The election of Prof. Mário Pinheiro as an effective member is a significant recognition of his important contributions in the field of physics, namely the creation of the theory of "Ergontropic Dynamics", a new approach to dynamics and electrodynamics. Furthermore, he has carried out research in areas such as electromagnetic turbulence and plasma propulsion, topics of great relevance in the context of nuclear fusion, cold plasmas and advanced propulsion technologies.

Membership as a full member of Sigma Xi is granted through a rigorous nomination process and is reserved for individuals who have made substantial contributions to research and who demonstrate the potential to continue to innovate in their areas of study.
