Bragg Peak monitoring through prompt-gamma: detection and instrumentation

Abstract:
The primary goal is the development of the instrumentation for an Orthogonal Prompt-Gamma Imaging (OPGI) detector for range verification in Proton Therapy treatments.

The experimental program includes tests with small scale prototypes to assess the signal output and to develop preliminary instrumentation to deal with a low number of channels. Crystals read by SiPM devices were used to acquire waveforms for analysis.

Simultaneously, simulations were developed to study the performance of the system and to study possible enhancements to the system, namely the light collection system. A solution for a large number of channels will be tested in the near future.
